CARIES PREVENTION AND ORAL HYGIENE

Description

To keep teeth and gums healthy, any person should visit dental hygienist regularly, at least 2 times per year. If a person does not clean the soft plaque completely off the teeth, it mineralizes under influence of saliva, and turns into tartar. Tartar can cause various diseases regarding gums and surrounding tissues. If a person does nothing to prevent it for a longer period, it can lead to gum retreat from of some or all teeth, deformation of the teeth row, and gaps between teeth. Dental hygienist removes soft plaque and tartar from the teeth, polishes them with abrasive pasta, flosses teeth, and puts on a mineral and fluoride mask, that:
-reduces tooth sensitivity
-stops intense caries, including root caries
-increases microhardness and resistance of tooth enamel
-restores mineral composition of tooth enamel after teeth whitening.
For mineral gel applications, caps should be used. NEW. We can offer some comfortable quality caps, which can be used at home. A special ultrasound device is used to remove the tartar. The teeth become whiter, and may be sensitive in first few days, so we reccomend patients to buy specialized toothpaste, that contains minerals. The hygienist also gives advice on teeth whitening and toothpastes.

Tooth bleaching and whitening

Tooth bleaching is the fastest way to get whiter and brighter looking teeth. We select appropriate and acceptable tone for each patient. Tooth whitening is more gentle to teeth, but the method itself takes longer time. Special toothpastes for whitening are used most often.

Toothpaste containing minerals

  • calcium, phosphorus, magnesium – these minerals are one of the main active ingredients in toothpastes, and they are lifelong participants in tooth metabolism.
  • Bromelain – that’s an enzyme that prevents soft plaque, makes teeth cleaner, and also has anti-inflammatory and anti-viral effect.
  • Xylitol – known as inhibitor of caries causing microflora development. Does not damage tooth enamel. Guarantees anti-plaque effect until next cleaning.

Conventional toothpastes

  • Most often contains fluoride, which effectiveness is decreasing as the teeth mature.
  • The plaque and pigmentsare removed by mechanic action of abrasives.
  • Person can feel the plaque already few hours after cleaning teeth.
  • Pastes that are positioned as a cleansing effect often contains a lot of abrasives, which can cause the damage of enamel and scratch teeth, seals and dentures.

-Aesthetic dental restoration

Cosmetic restoration will help to smooth the tooth row, hide unnecessary gaps between teeth, remove old, discoloured seals.

-Therapeutic treatment

More known as a caries treatment. Caries is damaged hard tissues of the tooth. The sooner yiu start the treatment, the less damage to the tooth is done. Caries may be caused by the lack of vitamins, minerals, calcium, phosphorus in the body. To avoid this, more fruits, vegetables, less sweets and products with white flour should be used. Pregnant women and teenagers have are at the risk group.  Caries develops and progresses most often because of a poor oral hygiene.

There are mostly no complaints in the early stages of caries. When tooth enamel is damaged, some complaints appear, when reacting to sweet and sour. If damage has reached the dentin, complaints may appear, when reacting to hot or cold. If a patient visits dentist at this stage, we will need to clean the caries from the damaged tooth, and will need to restore the tooth using a seal. What we offer:
-helium light curing composite seals
-amalgam seals
When treating 6.-8.tooth we often have to reccomend amalgam fillings, if the caries has damaged the tissues under the gum.

-Endodontic treatment

If the patient has not visited dentist on time, the bacteria from the caries enter the pulp of the tooth, and pulpitis (inflammation of the tooth nerve) develops. Treatment becomes much longer, intensive and more expensive. A patient with pulpitis may experience strong pain, also pain at night is a common thing. The pain canspread to ears, other teeth nearby, temples. Treatment will take several sessions:

  1. Under anesthesia, the damaged nerve is removed, the root canal gets mechanically cleaned, rinsed, dried. For the intersection, a lime containing preparation is left in the tooth. The tooth cavity gets closed with a temporary seal.
  2. The canal gets filled with GP (gutta-percha) and one the endodontic pastes. Sessions 1 and 2 are controlled by RGV (digital x-ray), all the images are saved digitally, and added to the patient’s card afterwards.
  3. Damaged tissues of the tooth are being replaced with a seal. It can be light curing composite filling or amalgam seal. Our clinic uses filling materials made in USA and Germany.

-Dental surgery, implants

Appropriate anesthesia is required for a quality surgical manipulation. We use anesthetical preparations with duration of 2-4 hours. There are basically no contraindications on using anesthetics nowadays. They are harmless to the heart, do not cross placenta in case of pregnancy, and do no get into breastmilk. Anesthesia can be done without pain, if anesthetic gel is applied to the gum, so patient doesn’t even feel the needle.

We are very accurate when doing tooth extractions, as the patient may want to have dental implants at some point in future. Then it will be important, that the bone is as good as possible.

Implant is a titanium screw, that has to be placed in a patient’s jawbone, using special tools, replacing the lost root of the tooth. There is an option to put the implant right after the extraction, if there is no inflammation process at the end of the root. A treatment plan and additional examinations have to be scheduled for the patient before such manipulations.

Dental prosthetics gives an opportunity to restore extracted or lost teeth (f.x. due to illness or trauma).

If one tooth is missing, the others can change their position slowly, and it causes change in a tooth bite. Altered bite can lead to jaw diseases, make it more difficult to clean teeth appropriately, increase the risk of caries and gum diseases. Missing teeth makes it harder to chew the food and it also has a negative effect to your smile – it looks less aesthetic.

-Removable dentures

We produce partial and total plates of plastic. NEW – we can create partial plates from Valplast – elasctic material, that provides maximum comfort. To ensure the best fixation of the plate, we offer different arcs of circles.

-Irremovable dentures

Irremovable bridge denture (the bridge) is a construction, that consists of one or more artificial teeth, replacing missing teeth. They are attached to natural, adjacent teeth by some fixation elements. Irremovable bridge dentures restores the effectiveness of the bite up to 100%. In appearance, they look just like your natural teeth. Bridges are recommended with a minimal teeth loss, and if some natural teeth are saved. There are various types of permanent dentures. What we offer:

  • Bridges and crowns. Available stamped or cast. The casted ones are much more precise, do not traumatize gums, ensures aesthetic look.
  • Metallic
  • Plastic
  • Metal ceramics.

-Micro prosthetics

They are used in cases, when only one tooth is missing. It is made of fiberglass, and it does not require abrading the teeth nearby.

-Veneers

Veneers are mostly made of porcelain, they give aesthetic, beautiful and natural look, and ensures long lasting wear. They can also help to even the shape, colour, length of the teeth, keeping them easy to clean and looking cosmetically aesthetic.

It requires to make a small reduction (abrading) of enamel, and veneers are fixed to the tooth with a specific cement.

-Implants

We make prosthetics on Strauman, Alfa Bio and Medentika implanting systems. Knowledge and education about implantation is acquired in Germany and Lithuania, taking part in different courses about various impantation systems.

Implant is a perfect way to replace one missing tooth, as it does not require abrading the teeth nearby. It can also hold a bridge denture. People are often losing their 5.,6.,7. teeth during their lives. Removable denture is offered most often. But it can be unsatisfying for many. Total dentures has a loose grip on the lower jaw, but it could be solved with 2 or 4 implants, that would improve the fixation of the denture. Be aware, that it takes 5-6 months before the permanent implants can be put in the place. Although, it is possible to get some temporary denture.
